Background information about ENSCO 100

This photo of ENSCO 100 under tow approaching the Port of Dundee was taken on the 18th of October 2018.

This rig was built in 1986 in Clydebank, Glasgow, UK.
It has had a few names over the years:

MR.MAC – 1986
I am not sure when it was named ENSCO 100.

It was an ultra harsh gorilla class rig with square cross-sectional legs. Most modern jack-ups have triangular cross-sectional legs.

The accommodation block on ENSCO 100 wasn’t wrapped around the leg but is in the middle of the rig.

The modern design is safer as the accommodation block is further away from the drilling derrick.

The cranes were a lot lower on E100. On modern jack-up rigs, you can look down at the helipad from the cranes.

It should have been renamed to Valaris after the merger and rebrand.
I have watched E100 being towed a few times along the river Tay, but sadly I missed its final voyage.

On the 14th of September 2020, ENSCO 100 left the Port of Dundee for the last time to be towed to Denmark to be scrapped.
